この中で、文部科学省科学技術・学術政策局の渡辺次長は、放射性物質の拡散を予測する「ＳＰＥＥＤＩ」と呼ばれるシステムで、事故の直後に行った予測のデータについて、外務省を通じて直ちにアメリカ軍に提供していたことを明らかにしました。ＳＰＥＥＤＩのデータは、文部科学省が「実態を正確に反映していない予測データの公表は、無用の混乱を招きかねない」として、一部を除き、事故の発生から２か月近く公表しませんでしたが、アメリカ軍に提供した理由について、渡辺次長は「緊急事態に対応してもらう機関に、情報提供する一環として連絡した」と説明しました。
